lot more for a busy wednesday, "early today" starts right now. good morning, i'm dara brown. the badger state has spoken. for the democrats, bernie sanders is the projected winner, leading hillary clinton by double digits. the win nets him 46 new delegates, clinton picks up 43. he's now less than 250 pledged delegates behind clinton. but when factors in super delegates, sanders trails by more than 600, he's hoping to capitalize on the push this win gives him. >> with our victory tonight in wisconsin, we have now won seven out of eight of the last caucuses. >> secretary clinton tweeted congratulations to bernie sanders on winning wisconsin. to all the voters and volunteers who poured your hearts into this campaign. forward. h. the two will debate in brooklyn on april 14th. with new yorkers going to the polls five days later on the 19th.
at a town hall clinton was welcomed by new york city's first lady, charlene mccrae, clinton was quick to needle donald trumpen his home turf and shared a special moment with the crowd. >> the fellow from new york, i wish he would get out of one of his towers and actually walk the streets and spend time with the people of this city. because peddling prejudice and paranoia is not the new york way. well i'm also with you. >> she also appeared on "the view" telling the panel her celebrity crush is george clooney and held a fundraiser in the bronx. clinton sits down with joe and mika on msnbc's "morning joe" later today. ted cruz beat donald trump by a wide margin. he collects 33 delegates to trump's three. narrowing his gap with the donald to 239.
cruz won praise from fellow republican lindsey graham who tweeted well done ted cruz, hopefully tonight is the turning point to deny donald trump 1237 delegates, saying trump's gibberish is beginning to catch up with him. graham's turning point comment was echo the in cruz's speech. along with a warning. >> tonight is the turning point, it is the rallying cry. it is a call from the hard-working men and women of wisconsin to the people of america. we have a choice. a real choice. so let me just say hillary, get ready, here we come. >> nbc's halle jackson spoke with wisconsin governor scott walker about cruz's chances with the race moving forward. >> i think you're saying and embodied in the fact, jeb bush, karlie fiorina, lindsey graham

to be the now-divorced governor talking to his alleged mistress. >> let me kiss that left ear, okay? >> governor bentley has denied a physical affair, but has apologized for making inappropriate comments. >> i did it, i did it and that's why i ask the people of this state to forgive me. because they are a forgiving people and they know god's grace. >> this scandal exploded after the fired top law enforcement official here raised questions about the governor's alleged relationship and possible misuse of state resources. >> this not about the governor's personal conduct. this is about the allegations against him, including that he obstructed justice within the alabama state law enforcement agency. >> ironically, house member who is may eventually vote on impeachment are the same politician who is reupped the speaker of the house. despite his indictment on 23 counts of ethics violations. the speaker, who maintains his innocence has yet to go on trial. and among the witnesses who

interference. >> reaction was swift on social media. i've never been more disgusted in the state of mississippi, but also support, how is passing the bill considered hate? the aclu saying it will serve as the magnolia state's badge of shame. others calling it sanctioned discrimination. >> mississippi needs only to look as far as north carolina to see how damaging discrimination can be to a state's reputation and to a state's economy. >> paypal canceled plans for a 400-job expansion, citing north carolina's new law limiting protection for transgender people. and atlanta joins a growing list of cities and states banning publicly funded travel there. but in georgia, a religious liberty bill was vetoed after big companies threatened to take business elsewhere. >> i believe it is about the character of our state. and the character of our people. >> in the wake of last year's landmark decision legalizing gay marriage, showdowns in a number
of states. mississippi's law takes effect in july. janet shamlian, nbc news. on to missouri, where a dramatic police chase was caught on dashcam video. it happened on sunday, an ended when a speeding suv flipped multiple times through the air. it lands in a ditch after the driver lost control and the driver wasn't wearing a seat belt. was thrown from the flying suv. lucky for him the officer saved his life by performing cpr. >> a nurse who witnessed the crash also came to help. the driver was reportedly talking to paramedics as they took him to the hospital. history was made last night by the university of connecticut women's basketball team. >> the national championship goes to connecticut for the fourth year in a row. as the dynasty fulfills its destiny.
>> the huskies took home an unprecedented fourth straight championship, beating syracuse in an 82-51 finish. uconn had a strong start out of the gate, with brianna sort earning ten points in the first six minutes. building a 23-6 lead over syracuse. the orange managed to close the gap to 17 in the third quarter, but they were no match for the huskies as they restored their lead and finished their undefeated season while notching their 75th consecutive win. uconn's sort was named the final four's most outstanding player for the fourth year in a row, huskies seniors graduate with an unprecedented 151-5 record. it was a close call in china where a van nearly drove into a landslide. the driver managed to stop just as tons of rock and earth poured down on to the road. officials say the slide was caused by days of drenching rain. and here at home it is a week of weather extremes. let's get the details now from bill karins. >> how old were you when you
